I’m going to throw in some marriage advice today.
“Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?”
Amos 3:3 NLT
Recently I was talking to one of my girls about this subject and this illustration came to me. The two front wheels of any vehicle are connected by an axle and whichever way the steering column steers is the way BOTH wheels turn, because they are connected!!
This is the way a husband and wife need to be connected. Both going the same way! Axles (marriages) break when wheels are being strained to go in different directions and while I know very little about the mechanical end of this, I imagine that difficult terrain would be strenuous on the axel (marriage).
So, what would be considered difficult terrain?
For starters, if you’re not already married, do NOT marry someone who does not share your love for God. Being unequally yoked is about as rough terrain as you can get. One of the things I remember most from our marriage counselling was that whatever the circumstance, we (husband and wife) need to stick together. Me as the wife is supposed to “stand by my man” even if he, as the head of the house, made what I deemed to be a bad/wrong decision. I realize that in today’s culture I could be dubbed anywhere from old school to stupid, but I’ll expound on my ‘why’ next time!
For the only cause that counts,
Julia
